Mothers day in your business

Commercially, Mothers Day is one of the big days of the year. Well, it is if you run a business that sells perfumes, flowers, gifts or cards anyway. But what if you don't sell those obvious Mothers Day items?

You can use Mothers Day to promote or support your business regardless of what you offer customers. The following list of ideas is just a sample of what is possible so you can find ideas for your own business.

  • Add a nice poem about mothers to your website or in with all orders you send out in May
  • Send a mothers day card to all clients you know are mothers
  • Offer a mothers day card/ecard to all your clients for their mothers
  • Give a discount to all mothers accompanied by their children in the week before Mothers Day
  • Add some mothers day ideas to your newsletter, such as
    • How to use your products/services as mothers day gifts
    • Activities to do with mothers
    • Recipes for children to use on mothers day
    • General gift ideas
    • Quotes or poems about mothers
  • Add photos of mums and their children to your website, shop, newsletter or catalogues
  • Have a vase of chrysanthemums in your shop
  • Acknowledge your own mother to customers to show your personality and remind them about their mothers
  • Tell a story about her in your newsletter
  • Keep her photo visible on your desk or in your shop
  • Display something relating to your mum (eg a blanket she knitted, a poem she wrote)
  • Sponsor an event associated with Mothers Day
  • Major charity events such as the Mothers Day Classic fun run
  • The mothers day stall at your local primary school
  • Gifts for mums in the local maternity ward
  • Have all staff wear a chrysanthemum or a decorated name tag for Mothers Day
  • Run a competition where the question is related to mothers or mothers day – maybe have your Mum be the judge of the entires!
  • Ask a group of children what they think of their Mums and put the answers on your website, in your newsletter, in orders or displayed in your shop
  • Donate something to a struggling mum or a group supporting local mums (you could then use this in a media release of you wanted more publicity from it)
  • Hand out some notes about women’s health for customers to read or give to their mum
  • Do a joint effort with a business that is traditionally associated with Mothers Day (eg a florist or a jeweller)
