1. Tell us about your business

All Coast Garage doors is a family owned and operated business located in Oxenford on the Gold Coast. Our business is supply, install and servicing of all garage doors, gate operators and accessories. We pride ourselves in giving old fashioned service on time. We offer free measure and quotes.

2. When and why did you start your business?

Our business started out as my partner sub-contracting for the past 11 years to the likes of B&D and other garage door companies on the Gold Coast. We decided about six months ago after trying to purchase another door company (which did not come to fruition due to too many challenges) that we would change the original name and expand and advertise all the services to which we had been doing for other people.

3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with of your business?

Our business has grown beyond our expectations since we made the change back in April. We are now regularly picking up new real estates and body corporates and our service work has doubled. We are now working almost wholly for ourselves with leaving minimal time for other companies who still require our installation services.

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business?

Other door companies feeling very threatened by us which has not been easy. The hardest part was marketing the business on the internet and understanding how all the search engines etc work.

5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business?

Internet advertising, flyer letterbox drops and placing weekly ads in the local paper have been the success of our business in a short time. Free business listings have helped immensely.

6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business?

I have not come across one that I can say has not been successful so far.

7. Name your favourite thing about your business

Seeing people who are happy with a job well done.

8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you?

My partner always inspires me. He is the brawn behind the business and has a great rapport with the customers.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

We hope to expand our business from a home office to a showroom with a factory where people are able to come and look at the different designs of doors etc and feel relaxed.

10. Share your best business tip with our readers.

If your garage door is sluggish, noisy or hard to open then it requires a general service. Incorrect tension on doors can reduce the lifespan of garage door motors and also moving parts on your door.
