2. When and why did you start your business?

I started the business back in 2003, it grew from a passion for writing resumes and helping friends.

3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with your business?

Personally I have achieved a lot of confidence and satisfaction from delivering a high level service that gets results for people. Just last week a client from 2003 (it's now 2010) rang me to help her with an update to her resume. That makes me feel good!

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business?

Long hours, particularly to start with. Taking on any job at any price to get the client numbers, my confidence and results up. OK, I'll admit it, a bit of laziness when it comes to getting out there and promoting - but when I do - it's worth it.

5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business?

yellowpagesonline, google maps local search listing, and optimisation word of mouth, referrals - THIS IS THE BEST website!

6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business?

One off approach to local recruitment agencies - it needs ongoing relationship building and mutual support.

7. Name your favourite thing about your business

The joy I see on people's faces, and hear in their voices when they see how I represent them in a resume and cover letter and when they let me know they got the job they were after.

8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you?

Richard Branson, Boost, Anita Roderick.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

Set a concrete plan for where I want it to be and what needs to be done to get it there and then work that plan. Business by Design, not Reaction

Know who your ideal client is and target your promotions to them Go the extra mile - it will come back to you 100x over Keep excellent client records and be able to promote to your database Build a great support team Allocate a set time each week for promotional activities Create strategic alliances with other business owners in complementary businesses.
