2. When and why did you start your business?

I have been trading online for over 10 years now. I started selling online as a form of part time work and income as I already had a full time job working for a wage. As the online sales grew I decided it was time to expand by leaving my employer and opening my own retail store to handle the increase work load from online shopping.

3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with your business?

I have managed to open a retail store during the GFD with very little capitol and watch it grow.

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business?

Having to self teach myself how to do admin work such as learning MYOB systems and knowing what sells better and what doesn't.

5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business?

Free internet classified sites, Boat shows and fairs, eBay, Letter box drops and of cource word of mouth.

6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business?

Local press, Industry magazines and pay per click advertising.

7. Name your favourite thing about your business

Being able to supply a range of products used for having fun on the water while boating. Also having to take responsibility for my own actions.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

To keep it at a managable size where personal service is never compromised and to keep up with new trends and customer needs.

Don`t take on more than you can handle. You must have a passion for what you do and sell and not be there for the money only.
