2. When and why did you start your business?

I started my own business in 2009 because of the desire to be my own boss, because of a passion for the products I sell and the people behind them and because I enjoy the challenge of developing and growing a business. As I live in rural Australia I chose the internet as a way of doing business, as it gave me access to a large market that is unavailable to me otherwise. Even though I was aware I faced intense competition, it offered enormous opportunities, low start up costs and the ability to work from a home office.

It has been a constant learning experience as I have not previously conducted business on the internet. I am enjoying the challenges and the freedom to be able to control so much of the business.

The people behind the products. They are the men and women who have every reason to despair but don't.

8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you?

I have been inspired both by business entrepreneurs I have read about who through their creativity, persistence and patience have achieved success independently of large mainstream business, and by the skill, sheer tenacity and optimism of the Fair Trade artisans I purchase from.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

The next step in my business is to develop the web site further so as to be able to operate as both wholesaler and retailer with the long term aim of growing the business to where it is not dependent on me directly.
