1. Tell us about your business

Icons Graphic Design offers graphic and website design, including logo design and branding, business stationery, brochure design and presentation material. We also create email stationery and web banners and do SEO. We are also discount printers for clients in Australia and NZ.

2. When and why did you start your business?

Icons was started in Sydney in 1996 and came to the Gold Coast in 1999. I started Icons because I love doing graphic design and working freelance using my own initiative.

3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with your business?

Being able to live life on my own terms doing what I love.

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business?

Moving to a different state and starting over; learning new technologies such as Dreamweaver to move into the web design arena and becoming an online provider.

5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business?

To date, cold calling has been the most successful activity, together with good customer service and going the extra mile.

6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business?

Google Ad Words

7. Name your favourite thing about your business

Designing - I just love it and am often up all night doing a website because I\'m so engrossed in it.

8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you?

Anyone who is successful doing what they love or enjoy.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

I plan to start offering WordPress based sites. I\'m already offering easy edit sites with a great CMS, but WordPress is becoming more popular so I\'ll go with that too!
