1. Tell us about your business

Jill Angus Consultancy Services (JACS) is a small business designed to appeal to RTO colleges and small businesses. We offer a range of RTO assistance for development, set up and compliance for colleges, however we also deal with a range of small business owners, assisting in ebuiness, elearning and strategic development. We offer services to small to medium businesses support in marketing, management, business planning and HR/Training programs. We offer flexible systems and a range of business solutions for many industry sectors.

2. When and why did you start your business?

After leaving a college, i was engaged to consult for them on a range of projects, and from there, word of mouth, online marketing and referalls become a source of additional clients. I have worked in various business for over 25 years, however JACS was formed in September 2009.

3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with your business?

I have really enjoyed establishing a successful partnership with another quality business women and collobarating on projects. Whilst google advertising can be expensive I gained an important client through this medium. I also self developed my website and have grown enormously during this time.

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business?

Balancing my online marketing costs/needs with availability of hours with the fluctuation in client needs. Whilst maximising free listing an investment to stronger positioning with target markets will be needed for sustainable growth.

5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business?

Google Ad's work well, however they are quite costly. You can get many bonus vouchers which are great but only can be used when first setting up your account. Referals from other businesses, existing clients, friends and family. I have even had some success with free business listings however setting this up can be time consuming.

6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business?

One of the downsides to using google ads is that your competitors can constantly click on your link costing you money whilst not receving any new business. In addition whilst free business listings are good, unless someone is looking exactly for your business most have paid adverstisements that are at top of screen. I also feel that before you ad any links to other sites you should ensure that the site is of quality of service and is something inline with your business otherwise you will only get window shoppers.

7. Name your favourite thing about your business

I enjoy business due to the range of variety of projects that I undertake, this allows me to develop a wide range of skills in a variety of sectors and keeps me interested in life long learning. The other components I enjoy include the flexibility of working for youself and the challenging nature of business.

8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you?

I have a range of clients, and colleagues who offer a wide range of various expertise in a number of different areas. I use these as my support network and find that others with similar directions can be an extremely valuable source of information which can be mutually beneficial. However I am inspired but successful business that maintain quality and high standards of ethics in their business transactions.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

I am in the process of writing, developing and creating online elearning programs for professional develop strategies for trainers and managers. Our website will announce details of our launch as the courses nearer completion.

10. Share your best business tip with our readers.

You should always allocate time to participate in ongoing Networking and the use of mentors to support your buisness growth. You should also undergo regular Personal Professional Development to stimulate your mind and maintain and improve your skill levels. Ensure you offer Quality of Service if you wish to attract Repeat Business as part of your diverse marketing strategy. Developing a diversitification of business ideas and being flexible enough to change with market needs to ensure sustainability of your business.
