1. Tell us about your business

Kennedy Financial Solutions is a Mortgage Broking Business where we specialise in Finance and Education Solutions. We are located on the Sunshine Coast with clients all over the Eastern Seaboard.

2. When and why did you start your business?

I started in Jan 2007, having 23 years of Banking and Finance experience behind me. I wanted to use the knowledge I had gained from working as a Business Development Manager. Seeing the issues some Customer and Brokers were having first hand, I wanted to be able to turn these issues around for them.

3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with of your business?

To date I have slowly but surely surrounded myself with highly respected professionals on the coast to allign with. I have built my business through referral, the only way to do so in my industry. My client buys me as a person not as a quick solution. I have doubled my business each half year and working steadfastly to my next goal.

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business?

My biggest challenge is the Global Credit Crisis, this has caused major changes to the industry and made it more difficult to get the right solution for my client. We are in an ever changing field and I welcome the new regulations coming to ensure our field continues to be looked at as a Profession with trustworthy and reliable Brokers helping thier clients achieve their goals.

5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business?

Networking is the key in my industry, the more people I get to know, the more relationships I build, the more my business and I are being talked about.

6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business?

I have found advertising to be a big spend for me but I have found it does not deliver what I need to build my business.

7. Name your favourite thing about your business

My Clients, I really enjoy the interaction and challenge in getting a deal done. I know I am doing what my client wants as I have a growing percentage of clients being referred to me by existing clients.

8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you?

There are many people whom I look up to, they have managed to grow a successful business and still find the time to balance their work, life and family issues and needs.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

I want to continue to support my cleints now and into the future, I want to eventually align with a couple of businesses and offer a one stop shop solution, under one roof. So a group of professionals sharing their premises, processes and work ethic giving our clients the very best service we can.

10. Share your best business tip with our readers.

A Business Plan is the key to success, as you hear a lot in today's climate, Fail to Plan then Plan to Fail. You need to have a plan for the business' direction and continually monitor and measure your plans to keep you in line. One small diversion can start the downfall, if you let it.
