LanaB Holistic Skincare1. Tell us about your business LanaB Natural Skin Care is a proudly Australian owned and run family business based on the Gold Coast, Queensland. LanaB products are lovingly handmade as ordered using the finest quality natural ingredients available. Our products are 100% plant-derived and biodegradable and we use organic ingredients where possible. Our formulations contain high quantities of active ingredients and no synthetic fillers, making them incredibly effective and also very economical to use. 2. When and why did you start your business? Just over two years ago. After contributing natural skin care articles to a national magazine for over twenty years my life has changed dramatically. When I began writing for Grass Roots I was about 22 years old and the mother of two adorable little girls. My interest in natural beauty began through necessity as we didn’t have much money and I still wanted to care for my skin. I started out trying the basic skin care recipes that my mother swore by, milk baths, oatmeal bags and egg face masks. These really did work a treat but I couldn’t help myself and started to ‘tweak’ the basics and thus began an obsession that has turned into my online business, LanaB. 3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with of your business? An outlet for my creative side and the satisfaction of following an idea from paper to a finished concept. Love it! 4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business? Having a small budget has been the biggest hurdle. I've had to rely on customer word of mouth for most of the growth. This has been successful with an over 100% increase per year. 5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business? Giving away a free full sized hand balm with orders over $50.00 has been the best activity so far. 90% of sales are now over $50.00. 6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business? Advertising in local papers/media, virtually nil responses. 7. Name your favourite thing about your business The products of course. I've developed them and made them all with love and plenty of effort! 8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you? My husband has a successful business he started from scratch and he is my biggest influence. 9. What are your plans for the future of your business? Continued growth will be important and introducing products that my customers need. 10. Share your best business tip with our readers.
