1. Tell us about your business

2. When and why did you start your business?

I started teaching in 2001, when I was 15 years old. I love playing the piano and wanted to share this passion with others who were willing to learn. I also like to teach and help others learn, so teaching piano is my dream career.

3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with of your business?

I've taught over 50 different students, ranging from the complete beginner to the advanced level, and all different ages. My students are motivated to learn because they have fun during the lessons. They also tend to score great results in exams.

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business?

The main challenge is in advertising, which can be costly. However, I\'ve been trying to save money in this area by doing my own advertising, free business listings and through rewards for referrals.

5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business?

The main reason I have a good number of students is that I am able to relate well to students of any level and age, and am very dedicated to seeing my students do their best in exams and enjoying music. This has led to referrals by current students, so I think the main activity to promote your business is to be excellent at your job.

6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business?

Maybe letterbox drops are less successful. One out of 500 will probably respond, and then only about half of those will actually come for lessons.

7. Name your favourite thing about your business

Seeing my students improve in their piano playing and becoming more independent of me.

8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you?

I haven't thought about other businesses - I don't really know much about business to be honest.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

To keep enjoying and becoming even better at my job, while growing the number of students I have, and my reputation in Sydney.

10. Share your best business tip with our readers.

Be as committed to your clients as possible, and do more than is expected of you.
