1. Tell us about your business

Non Toxic Skin Care is a retail skin care brand dedicated to providing non toxic products! Our vast range includes women's skin care, men's skin care, body, bath, hair and baby care products.

2. When and why did you start your business?

Non Toxic Skin Care was established in 2009 after 7 years of intensive research and we have experienced exceptional growth both in Australia and overseas during our first year. With the rise of conscious customers who are seeking safer products, we noticed how many companies are deliberately misleading consumers into believing their products were safe, even so called natural and organic companies! Non Toxic Skin Care is on a mission to provide not only non toxic products but providing information through our website to better inform customers.

3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with your business?

On a personal level I have achieved a long awaited dream. It took many years to source the correct ingredients, research the ingredients and then learn how to clearly interpret my passion. I can't wait until I see my products in a retail environment at an affordable price. Something tells me that the next phase of my dream won't be far away!

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business?

The challenges I initially faced was cash flow! I'm a single parent who has self funded my business. It took years to accumulate the ingredients, learn how to put a website together and then promote my business. Through the years I never lost hope and knew that the concepts I was developing would come to fruition with patience and time.

5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business?

Non Toxic Skin Care is affiliated with EWG's cosmetics database where we have signed a compact for safe cosmetics and submit our formulas for ewg to review for safety. Customers can search this database and assess our products for safety. As our products rate low for toxicity we have become popular all over the world. This database is our primary source of income. We have also found facebook a great way to communicate with our customers in a relaxed way.

6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business?

We have found that the least successful form of marketing is online natural skin care directories.

7. Name your favourite thing about your business

My favourite part of the business is hard to define as I enjoy all aspects my running my business!

8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you?

People who inspire me are every day people who dream a dream and follow through on their dream. Whether they're successful athletes, famous pop stars or the owner of the local bakery, all people who dare to rely on themselves for an income inspire me.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

We are currently expanding our product range and plan to distribute our products wholesale all over the world. In the coming years I will becoming more involved with getting the "non toxic" message out there and hope to lobby the government to restrict ingredients that have already been banned in European countries.

10. Share your best business tip with our readers.

My best business tip is to stay dedicated and positive. For every closed door, another will open. My first priority is the satisfaction of my customers. I spend the time to listen to them and help them however I can.
