Onroad Driving School1. Tell us about your business At Onroad Driving School we are 100% committed to practising and teaching safe driving. Number of years the business has been in operation: 18 Months 2. Number of Years you have been the owner of the business: 18 Months a. Number of people employed by the business: 6-10 b. What is the annual dollar turnover of the business: 200,000-500,000. 2. When and why did you start your business? I and Sapna (my wife) started the business in 2008. My wife and I were driving to the central coast and saw a terrific accident. Due to the other driver mistakes, a family has to suffer for their kid’s serious injury. We felt very sad after looking at their accident because it could happen to anybody at anytime without having their faults. We both are good drivers and thought to start something that helps local driving community. Driving School idea clicked in our mind and we researched it. Finally we agreed to start and Sapna (my wife) got her licence. After six months, I joined Onroad Driving School after leaving a job for nearly 10 years. Since then we rapidly expanding our business and each of our students appreciates our quality teaching. My wife is a seasoned teacher and I am a MBA person, we always believe in quality & service. It helping us in a big time and we are still expanding our business into different suburbs. 3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with your business? Since started with just one instructor, we have a team of 8 Instructors and still expanding through out Western Sydney. We are a winner of 2009 Parramatta Local Business Awards and Finalist in 4 different business awards and have been the finalist for Small Business Champions Awards in 2008. 4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business? As we all know starting a new business is totally a risk and that too we started during recession so I had to face a few financial problems in the begnning stage of Onroad Driving School. 5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business? Word of Mouth is the best marketing tool for us and growing rapidly. We advertised in local newspaper, community newspaper, Google search engine, internet search engine, mailbox drops, local PR activity, Uniforms, Car Stickers, Referral voucher scheme, student presentation folders, calendar magnets, shop posters, business card holders in food stores, yellow and true local websites etc. In fact, word of mouth and referral voucher scheme is among the best and very less expense but at the same time, we need to maintain high quality of service. 6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business? Advertising in local newspaper and community newspaper were less successfull in promoting our business. 7. Name your favourite thing about your business I am proud of the thing which my business provides is quality. 8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you? Am passionate about driving and it’s my personal interest to be the best in driving industry. 9. What are your plans for the future of your business? Long Term 5 Years: Sydney's No.1 leading driving school Short Term 2 Years: Western Sydney No.1 leading driving school To achieve these goals, we have to constantly making sure that our quality is there. We have increased our marketing budget by an extra 15% for next 6 months. Without having good team, it's become hard to maintain service so we always look for good instructors by advertising and from education institutes.
