1. Tell us about your business

Queen Bee® is an exclusive online maternity boutique based in Sydney that stocks the largest range of maternity clothes and designer maternity fashion from Australia and around the globe.

2. When and why did you start your business?

My first son Mitchell never slept much as a baby so I was constantly awake all hours of the night and perhaps you can say I ‘dreamt’ up the idea....!!

3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with your business?

I have learnt to prioritise tasks, be very organised and stay on top of the mountains of paperwork involved in running a business! I have also learnt to make sure there is alot of time spent with my children, after all I only started Queen Bee so I could be with them full time at home.

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business?

None!! If you have a well structured business plan then the only challenge is spending within budget. Sometimes I have to control myself when I see a range that’s really really nice – I just want to buy it all! But I am very business minded and do end up sticking to plan...

5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business?

Advertising, social media, and maintaining our beautiful website have been crucial in promoting our business.

6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business?

Low end local magazines, advetisements on a national scale work best.

7. Name your favourite thing about your business

Watching it grow from strength to strength and being home with my kids everyday - the flexibility of the job has been the BEST!

8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you?

The big online fashion entities who are selling globally - it's amazing! you can buy anything from across the world now delivered to your door.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

Too many to list! The ideas keep coming and the planning and new re-structuring is ongoing.
