Tell us about your business Surge Computing Services develops affordable websites whether a simple statis multipage wesite ro a sophisticate Online Shopping Cart eCommerce solution. We register your domain name, host your website and develop your website to your requirements... 2. When and why did you start your business? Surge Computing Services started way back in 1981 when the IBM PC was just an infant and home computers were limited to the Commodore Pet etc. Surge has been selling PCs and programming since that time. Websites have been a part of our business since around before the turn of the century. 3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with of your business? The web development side of our business has developed in such a away to allow a relaxed lifestyle working away from an office environment. We are able to spent a large part of the year travelling Australia calling on our customer base and developing new contacts and opportunities. 4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business? Web development and PHP in particular were foreign to our staff due to our concentration on legacy programming languages. Coming to grips with the new online languages took some time, but now it is found to be very rewarding. Recently we were able to develop Customer Facing Fast Food Order Booth system (via a touch screen system) utilising PHP. This system is exremely flexible and can be managed by the shop owner... 5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business? Word of mouth is always the best promotion for your goods and services, and most of our new business is sourced this way... 6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business? Marketing other than through the search engines has not been neccessary due to the success of 'word of mouth'. 7. Name your favourite thing about your business Being able to work offsite anywhere in Australia via our Telstra Wireless Broadband connection. 8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you? None really... 9. What are your plans for the future of your business? To continue to grow our solid customer base. 10.
