1. Tell us about your business

Tile Direct are wall and floor tile shops located on the Central Coast and Newcastle regions of NSW Australia. The major difference between us and our competitors is we actually install the products we sell. Companies all claim to have good service, Tile Direct actually provides the good service.

2. When and why did you start your business?

We started almost 8 years ago as an off shoot to our existing Sydney Tiling business "M&Z Tiling". We knew that Land for the building Industry in Sydney was running out and could see that the regional areas had potentital of creating a successful business due to their large amounts of land. Also more and more builders are building on the Central Coast and Newcastle regions than previously before.

3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with your business?

The business is a success and achieves only because all its staff operate as a team. I multi task and am involved with all facets of the business and so to do all the staff.

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business?

Hiring the right hardworking, honest and loyal staff is a major challenge, it may take a few times before one can get it right. The Global Financial Crisis, Building downturns and Builders going bust who owe substantial amounts of money all make it difficult.

5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business?

Word of Mouth, Yellow Pages, Local Newspapers, Radio and letter box pamphlet drops.

6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business?

TV and Cinema Advertising.

7. Name your favourite thing about your business

Tiles are fashion and they are contstantly coming up with new things.

8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you?

My father Mick Vrljic has inspired me the most as a mentor as a human being and as business man.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

For us to keep doing what we are doing best.
