1. Tell us about your business

U.R. The Star takes an e-mailed photo and turns the customer into a 'star' in their very own animated, cartoon, action adventure DVD - utilising the latest in 3D animation. We have a range of 8 titles and in each one 'you' are the star, 'you' are the hero. These unique DVD's make treasured keepsakes. We have DVD adventures for every member of the family.

2. When and why did you start your business?

U.R. The Star DVD Australia began 18 months ago. The parent company in America has been going for much longer. With personalised on-line products becoming more and more popular here in Australia, U.R. The Star was destined to be a 'hit'.

3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with of your business?

We love the great feedback that we receive from delighted customers. We have received so many wonderful e-mails from customers telling us how much the 'stars' have enjoyed their DVD's.

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business?

Product recogniton and awareness was a problem to begin with, as photo-personalised DVD's were so new to Australia. Being an on-line business was a challenge at start-up. Web site design was a drama until we found our 'guru'. As was finding, good, quality Distributors to market and sell our product.

5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business?

Word of mouth is huge - and that all comes down to providing exceptional customer service. Also, having great Distributors that know what they're doing and love the product.

6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business?

Print advertising to date has not gone well.

7. Name your favourite thing about your business

It is a 'fun' business - we make people happy.

8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you?

Naomi, the CEO of Red Balloon Days (one of our Distributors) provides ongoing inspiration to us.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

From mid Feb 2010 - all production for the DVD's is moving from America to the Gold Coast, Qld. Very exciting. We can offer our customers a much faster turnaround for the delivery of their DVD's.
