Yummy Bubby1. Tell us about your business Yummy Bubby provides a healthy baby and toddler food alternative for time poor parents who are want to give their children nutritious meals without any artificial preservatives, no added salt or sugar. The meals are made fresh, vaccum sealed and then frozen. You can order via secure gateway, online and they are delivered to your door. 2. When and why did you start your business? I began my business in October 2007. Quite frankly, it was borne out of necessity; I really couldn't find anything on the market that I felt was of the quality and nutritient value that I wanted to feed my baby, so I started Yummy Bubby after a friend asked me to cook some fresh baby food for her baby. Most foods were preserved using pasteurisation which destroys all water soluble vitamins or UHTreated and were just not 'fresh' enough! 3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with of your business? I've given many working mothers a healthy "guilt free" alternative for their babies/toddlers. That alone makes me feel great about what I do. I've also achieved a sense of freedom - I run my own business so I have work hours that can fit around my family's lifestyle. That's a definite plus. 4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business? There was the challenge of creating a brand new concept - gourmet baby food and finding my market, which initially. although I knew roughly who they were, were hard to find in a marketing sense, on a limited budget. There was also the challenge of caring for an 8 month old baby and running a household as well as trying to set up Yummy Bubby. Needless to say there were many late nights but you just have to persevere. 5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business? Online advertising works well, as my market are generally time poor and so do most of their research and alot of their buying online. Our you tube ad also helped generate interest as it was quite clever and funny... it's on our website. 6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business? Everything I've tried has had a degree of success although print media has been disappointing in some instances; surprisingly, my market just are not reading baby magazines. They don't have time! 7. Name your favourite thing about your business The freedom it gives me in my life and the peace of mind it gives my clients. I was talking to a client the other day on the phone and she just thanked me for the 'Yummy Bubby' idea - she said she just could not manage without the meals and it really helps create some 'extra' time for her and her family. I was smiling from ear to ear! 8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you? I'm inspired by people who show incredible talent for building a business and creating something new, challenging markets to think differently. The Wizard Home Loans Mark Bouris story is inspiring as is Kylie Little's success with Essential Baby. 9. What are your plans for the future of your business? I am looking forward to expansion so that I can offer the meals in retail outlets and make them available to more parents. 10. Share your best business tip with our readers. Overcome unreasonable fears about trying something new with your business. You have to take some risk to move ahead whether it be in your business life or in your personal life, that's a given. People inherently want to 'look good' and that thought often stops them from trying something out of the 'norm', for fear of not looking good. Take the fear with you, for company!
