Tell us about your business Alyssum Jewellery offers designer jewellery at prices lower than those on the designer's own website, along with genuine akoya pearls, jewellery for children and gifts and photo albums. We specialise in items for special occasions and all age groups. 2. When and why did you start your business? The business began trading in August 2008, purely because of my own love for fine jewellery! 3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with your business? I haven't made my fortune yet but I have gained a high sense of personal satisfaction from providing quality service and quality products. 4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business? Being online only it is a challenge to drive sufficient traffic to the website, and there are as yet so many untapped directories waiting to be discovered! 5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business? Listing on wedding and bridal directories has helped. 6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business? I have found that I get little response from print advertising! 7. Name your favourite thing about your business Providing a quality service and direct communication with my customers to find them the jewellery piece they want at a price that delights! 8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you? I could never compare to Sir Alan Sugar, but he is a remarkably shrewd man! 9. What are your plans for the future of your business? Continued steady growth, enough to create full-time work. 10. Share your best business tip with our readers. If something isn't working quit it. I wasted a small fortune on print advertising in the mistaken belief that I was maintaining brand awareness, but it simply doesn't work for an online business.
