Golden Age Hollywood

www.goldenagehollywood.com

1. Tell us about your business

We specialise in DVDs from the 30's 40's and 50's, the Golden Age of British and Hollywood movie making. We also sell a large range of movie musical CDs and soundtracks as well as autobiographical books, reference books relating to Hollywood and movie making. There is also a vast selection of movie memorabillia. We have interesting features such as a movie trivia page, a featured movie of the month and a star profile.

2. When and why did you start your business?

I started my business about six months ago. I was brought up on all the old movies and developed a deep love for them. Working in our local DVD store gave me the opportunity to chat to customers and answer their questions about actors etc. I decided to offer a service specialising in the classics as well as offering to search out rare movies for customers. I also majored in media studies in College which added to my passion for cinema

3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with your business?

I've learnt a great deal about web design and visual style and found great pleasure in helping clients find an old movie or simply to answer any question they may have about Hollywood, actors etc.

4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business?

Probably the biggest challenge is converting visitors to the site into customers, but I think it's all a matter of perseverence and constantly adjusting your content to reflect what people want.

5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business?

Definitely the site features such as the movie trivia pages and the Star Biographies, I get a lot of people writing to me asking if I could profile their favourite star or movie or thanking me for learning something from the trivia page.

6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business?

Traffic Exchanges proved to be ineffective, I spent a great deal of time viewing other people's ads to get my business shown only to discover that traffic exchanges weren't ideal for promoting retail and online stores, they are better suited to business opportunities and Forex programs.

7. Name your favourite thing about your business

I absolutely LOVE getting an email from someone asking me if a particular movie is available or can I reccommend a good book etc. It gives me a great deal of satisfaction when I can write back to them and let them know I've tracked down the movie they're after.

8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you?

Sir Richard Branson, EzyDVD, Amazon and other succesful retailers.

9. What are your plans for the future of your business?

I hope to include a wider range of movie related services, perhaps special deals to visit the movie studios in America. Also I'd like to create an inhouse auction site where customers can buy and sell movie related merchandise.

10. Share your best business tip with our readers.

Always reply to your emails ASAP. People have been extremely happy that I responded to their query so promptly and that can translate into a potential customer.
