TKN Skincare1. Tell us about your business Small manufacturer / retailer of Natural Skincare products made without harmful chemicals or artificial preservatives. Currently available directly fromme at local markets. 2. When and why did you start your business? July 2007 as I was tired of spending money on skincare that I was reacting to. I also wanted something safe that my 8 year old daughter could use without fear of her poisoning herself. I can sit back now that she is 12 andknow that she can use any of the products without harming her skin. 3. On a personal level, what have you achieved with your business? More confidence in talking to people - prior to being in business I was uncertain and did not like talking to strangers. Since being in business I have attended a number of networking events and am getting better at starting a conversation and talking about what I do and why. 4. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business? Coming up with marketing ideas and ways to promote the business - with a limited advertising budget I have had to find creative ways to get my name out there. This is still a work in progress. 5. What activities have been successful in promoting your business? Local school fetes and targeted fairs such as Green Fairs. 6. What activities were less successful for marketing your business? Advertising in industry publications such as Police DownUnder. I thought a targetted magazine would bring in more business but I havent had any enquiries at all - an expensive lesson but one better learnt early in my business. 7. Name your favourite thing about your business Freedom to create new products, seeing something I have created on display. 8. Who or what other businesses or business people inspire you? My massage therapist as she does minimal advertising but has a great customer base that are very loyal to her. 9. What are your plans for the future of your business? I would like to see my product sold through 5 -10 retail outlets so I dont have to continue doing markets of a weekend. Once I achieve this I can then spend more time developing new products. 10.
