Button Baby Revives Lay-By To Help Keep New Mums In StyleMelbourne-based online baby wear and gift retailer Button Baby has launched a lay-by service to help new mums afford stylish baby products at a time when family finances are tight. Button Baby founder Andrea Egan said: “As a mum of two myself, I know finding money can be tough when the family goes down to one income. But mums don’t want to sacrifice style when there are so many beautiful baby products on the market today.” She said combining an old retailing concept such as lay-by with the new world of online retailing was an easy fit. “We simply take a deposit and give you six weeks to pay off the balance owing on your items,” Mrs Egan said. “It’s just like old-fashioned lay-by except that you can make payments online from the comfort of your lounge instead of having to make repeated trips to the shop with kids, prams, snacks and nappies in tow!” Mrs Egan said the global financial crisis and ongoing economic uncertainty also added momentum to the idea of allowing mums to pay in instalments in order to bring fashionable baby products within their reach. “Having children does hit the hip pocket, and families are increasing cautious about their finances in the wake of the global financial crisis. But with celebrity mums leading the way in the style stakes, normal mums covet trendy baby products and lay-by gives them another option when budgeting,” she added. Mrs Egan said that ever since its launch a year ago, Baby Button had been committed to offering “chic but affordable” baby and kids products, and that response to the new lay-by service had been encouraging.
