Ci Munro - The Driving Force Behind Protecting Childrens Smiles

New Zealand motorhome manufacturer Ci Munro is all smiles as they announce their specialist transport engineering arm, Action Motor Bodies (AMB), has secured a three year contract to complete 94 mobile oral health dental surgeries as part of the District Health Board's Child and Adolescent Oral Health project.

Iconic New Zealand motorhome manufacturer Ci Munro is all smiles as they announce their specialist transport engineering arm, Action Motor Bodies (AMB), has secured a three year contract to complete 94 mobile oral health dental surgeries as part of the District Health Board's Child and Adolescent Oral Health project.

Taking a fresh approach to dental clinics, the new mobile units will replace traditional stationary clinics at schools throughout New Zealand. The initiative will save costs and allow the DHB to service more schools in more areas increasing the number of students who receive dental care.

All of the 94 vans are being built by AMB to surgical standards and are compliant with all criteria for patient areas of hospitals, both medical and dental. The design of the mobile units has been no mean feat, presenting a number of challenges that AMB's design and build expertise have overcome; maximum internal space with minimum external dimensions is required, functionally to allow enough space for the surgery and logistically to keep the curb weight at a level suitable for class one license holders. Each unit is also visually impressive, not only due to the clinical fitout, but the innovative design concepts AMB has incorporated.

"One of the most intriguing parts of the build was keeping the children in mind at every stage of the process, the units are customised for their comfort. To keep things cool or hot inside there's an inverter heat pump mounted under the body just behind the access steps, and the steps themselves have been designed along with a removable guardrail so they are suitable for small children access," says Chris Devoy, AMB Business Unit Manager.

"Attention to detail has been paramount, with the door closed it really is like being in a dental surgery," he says.

With its considerable experience in the transport engineering industry, AMB has risen to the challenge of designing and building such specialised units. Grant Webster, CEO of Tourism Holdings Ltd (thl) that owns both the Ci Munro and Action Motor Bodies says, "We have been very pleased with the way in which the AMB crew have once again shown the significant skill and expertise required in building these sophisticated and smartly designed units, it's a great testament to the thl team."

The contract will see AMB build four different configurations of the mobile dental units; a level one assessment unit intended for screening and three different configurations of the surgery units for treating those children who do require dental work.

The split comprises of 44 DHB level one units, and 50 larger units. The contract is a great win for the business who are looking forward to being a part of improving children's dental health nationwide.
