Design Group Operates Globally, 24/7 At 360 Degrees

Arcaeon Design Studio was launched in 2007, showcasing a concept that enlisted a tight knit group of independent professionals into a design and digital collective. It allowed the studio to draw on a global freelance talent-base with the widest range of skills, including web-development, 3D animation, plus graphic, motion and multimedia design. Arcaeon is Sydney-based and encompasses a team of designers from various fields, comprising core staff and permanent consultants, with additional hand-picked freelancers to expand the workforce as needed.

Like many innovative endeavours, it required vision and energy to get it up and running, and that was provided by Daniel de Lafoix. After completing his Masters of Design Science, (specialising in digital media), at the University of Sydney and then working as a multimedia developer, Daniel founded the Arcaeon collaborative network with a number of former university colleagues and highly-recommended friends.

“It took a lot of research and preparation ... The business plan was to put together a team of talented specialists and create a design facility that could offer a really wide spectrum of design and digital media solutions. A truly 360-degree facility that could also operate 24/7 because of its global pipelines. I wanted to be able to offer high quality, world-class design to all clients, both great and small.” Daniel said.

After the business was launched , the cooperative began with graphic design work for print collateral, branding and magazine ads. Daniel explains the breakthrough of their first contract: “Before we knew it, I had landed our first major contract. It involved the complete re-design of the quality management system for process manuals and software procedures at Cuscal Ltd's remuneration services department … it all came together a lot more quickly than expected”.

Its combined skills base now enables Arcaeon to offer a wide reach of services. For instance, website design needs to offer a range of options for clients … from enterprise-level corporate sites to small business and non-profit sectors. And having studied 3D animation across his degrees at university, Daniel was also able to include this facility. The range of freelancers now encompasses 3D artists, modellers and animators, graphic, motion and multimedia designers, web developers, copywriters, editors, compositors, illustrators, sound designers, voice-over and miniature effects artists.

With its coordination base in the Sydney studios, the group also has a comprehensive web-development facility in Melbourne and internationally in Shanghai, where architectural visualisation specialists provide backup to domestic and global freelancers. Arcaeon also has agents in Italy, both in Milan and Padua, concentrating on miniature effects and archaeological reconstruction services.

Late 2009, Arcaeon was chosen to provide a new website for Abacus, (www.abacus.org.au) the industry body for Australian credit unions, building societies and friendly societies. The site was totally revamped and up and running in just three months and launched December.

Arcaeon delivered the finished product on time and on budget. Dominic Dunn, the Head of Abacus Business Services, summed up: “... Abacus is proud to have Arcaeon Design Studio as a business partner. We've been delighted and impressed with the way Daniel and his team take the time to listen to our needs, share ideas and develop excellent finished products – always within the time-frames promised ...we highly recommend Arcaeon Design Studio”.
