Maui And Britz Pledge To Leave No Trace

Tourism Holdings Australia Pty Ltd (THL), the owners of the Maui and Britz campervan hire brands, has joined a national campaign at the forefront of promoting environmentally friendly camping.

Tourism Holdings Australia Pty Ltd (THL), the owners of the Maui and Britz campervan hire brands, has joined a national campaign at the forefront of promoting environmentally friendly camping.

Australia's largest campervan hire and motorhome rental operator has signed up to the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia's (CMCA) eco-friendly "Leave No Trace" scheme, with 33% of its entire Maui and Britz Australia fleet now accredited under the innovative green scheme. In the next two years, THL plans to increase its commitment to the scheme, with an extra 1,000 Maui and Britz campervans expected to be rolled out under "Leave No Trace".

The CMCA's "Leave No Trace" scheme promotes environmentally responsible camping, demonstrating self-contained vehicles should not have a negative impact on the environment, even where a campsite has no facilities. THL's commitment to "Leave No Trace" takes the number of vehicles involved in the scheme to more than 5,000. To qualify for the scheme, vehicles must be self-contained, featuring a shower, toilet, fresh and grey water tanks, and "Leave No Trace" of their visit to a site. Vehicle occupants must also comply with a Code of Conduct that outlines appropriate waste disposal, alongside consideration for the environment, financially supporting local communities with the purchase of food, fuel and supplies where possible, and adhering to camping limits and restrictions.

The scheme is expected to be a win-win situation for the environment, councils and tourists alike. Councils, recognising the environmental and ethical merits of the scheme, are more likely to open areas to self-contained vehicles which means more facilities to tourists who will then spend valuable tourism dollars in the local area.

Maui and Britz campervans accredited under the scheme will display the "Leave No Trace" sticker on the driver's window and carry the Code of Conduct. THL staff have also undergone training and the company has introduced a customer care process to monitor the participation of vehicle occupants.

Kate Meldrum, GM Marketing for THL, said the "Leave No Trace" program's eco-friendly approach complemented THL's commitment to taking leadership on minimising its environmental footprint. "As the premier campervan and motorhome operator in Australia, it is vital that we relentlessly pursue environmentally friendly travel and hope that others will follow," she said. "Our entire business is centered around enjoying Australia's raw, majestic beauty. It's in both our and our customers' best interests to ensure its sustainability so we can all continue to enjoy Australia's great outdoors for years to come."

THL continues to pioneer the campervan industry with countless product evolutions including its green move to reduce emissions from its rental motorhomes. Maui, THL's premier motorhome brand, offers the most efficient campervan fleet in Australia and New Zealand. The entire fleet is built to Euro 4 emission standards.
