Melbourne Playgrounds - Your guide to fun activities for kids in Melbourne

www.MelbournePlaygrounds.com.au is a family run web site which was launched in 2009 with the aim of becoming THE place for Mums, Dads, kids and teens to find fun family activities in the Melbourne area. Melbourne Playgrounds is a free resource and available 24/7. The site is the passion of parents Ian and Mira White together with their two young children, Ryan and Matthew.

The site has rapidly grown to include reviews of more than 1000 playgrounds and almost 1000 other activities such as indoor Play Centres, Skate parks, BMX tracks, aquatic centres, nature activities, museums & science, dance, singing and music lessons, sporting and recreational activities. There are links to What’s On and Markets calendars. The site also features mini-blogs which concentrate on specific subjects. Recent subjects have included the best flying foxes in Melbourne, all things train related, best water slides, Phillip Island under the microscope and best (and scariest) playground slides. The site is always being updated with lots of new activities.

The site aims to make all the key information on activities available in a consistent, easy to view format. Playgrounds include a review, rating out of ten, photographs, address, Melways reference and link to a map. Other activities are reviewed and rated whenever possible and a description, opening hours, cost, location, Melways reference and link to a map provided.

In order to make searching for playgrounds easier, we have a customised Google map which shows the location of all the playgrounds colour-coded by rating. This map links to the Melbourne Playgrounds web site so that any playground of interest can be quickly reviewed. We have provided a variety of searching options. Activities are categorized using the left hand menu. This means that it is possible to find activities by type e.g. water based activities or service providers for children’s parties. There is a search by suburb; free text searching and the mini-blogs consolidate activities by subject type. We are always eager to receive feedback on how the site can be improved.

Melbourne Playgrounds differs from other sites in that it specializes in the Melbourne area rather than try to cover all of Australia. This means that the site benefits from our local knowledge. We include activities in locations covered by the Melways Melbourne Street Directory. We also personally review as many activities as possible so that we spend the time sorting out the gems from the dross rather than busy parents.

We aim to provide a resource for families who live in Melbourne as well as families visiting Melbourne from the country, interstate or overseas.
