"Mumpreneurs" across Australia join forces for Mother’s Day10 Work at home Mums across Australia have joined forces into the lead up to Mother’s Day in a drive to promote each other’s businesses. The Mums that run online businesses from their home office or kitchen table have each donated a prize to create an ultimate array of Mother’s Day gifts valued at over $1100. The “Mega Mums Give Away” is running until the 25th April and one lucky winner will receive the prize in time for Mother’s Day on the 9th May. Perth Mum, Andrea Deegan runs the online greeting card store ‘Thinkcards” from her kitchen table. She said WAHMs (Work at home Mums) are connecting in online forums and building business alliances as well as friendships. “We don’t have big advertising budgets so we need to be a bit creative in marketing our businesses. One of the Mums that runs an online skincare store suggested we pull together for Mother’s Day and she came up with the “Mega Mums Giveaway”, said Andrea. The “Mega Mums Giveaway” is a competition that is running until the 25th April and the lucky winner will receive the 10 gorgeous prizes in time for Mother’s Day, she said. “It’s fantastic to see women supporting each other and wanting each other to succeed”. Kiera Pedley, founder of WAHM Network Australia and Women In Enterprise online business communities said that more women join her networks each week to introduce themselves as new, experienced or wannabe work at home Mums. “It can be lonely working from home but the possibilities that arise from connecting with other Mothers online are endless”, said Kiera. The women are generous in donating their time and expertise when others need some advice or assistance. They also swap advertising space, build alliances for special promotions and of course choose to purchase each other’s services and products, she said. “Working at home with your children around you is highly respected and valued amongst the WAHM community. I believe that this is what drives the camaraderie, the women genuinely want each other to succeed”. The prospering number of mumpreneurs connecting online is evident from the growth of WAHM Network Australia, a free online network which started in 2007 with a member base of 20 Mums that were personally invited to join. In the 2.5 years it’s been in operation, it has grown to a member base of over 600 work at home mums. With this growth increasing at a rate of 4-5 new members (and new businesses) per week. This growth increases around key baby birth times (January and September).
