Northern Beaches Kennards Hire Stores Go Green

One of Australia’s leading hire companies Kennards Hire has chosen its Northern Beaches sites to be part of a $900,000 project to make the business greener. Kennards Hire has teamed up with local family-owned business SolarSwitch to install a 10kW solar electricity system on each of its Brookvale and Mona Vale premises.

The two Northern Beaches systems are the first to be installed after the initial pilot installation at Kennards Hire St Marys. Once the project is complete in two months SolarSwitch will have installed a total of 20 X 10kW systems on Kennards Hire centres across NSW.

Each 52 panel installation will generate around $9000 worth of solar electricity per year which will more than cover each site’s annual electricity bill. Each system will also save over 13 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions being pumped into the atmosphere annually.

“Installing a solar system is a great way to reduce Kennards Hire’s carbon footprint and lower our power consumption. It will also have the added benefit of reducing our energy bills,” said Cameron Kennard, Managing Director of Keneco Property, which manages the company-owned sites.

The $900,000 investment after rebates for the 20 systems will pay for itself in around 4 years and then generate 20 to 30 years worth of free electricity for the Kennards Hire sites.

Kennards Hire operates more than 100 hire centres nationally and employs over 900 Australians.

“SolarSwitch is very excited to be working with such a prestigious company as Kennards Hire. We are finding more and more businesses are approaching us wanting to invest in solar power and do what they can for the environment” said Adam Tesoriero, Director of SolarSwitch.

Investing in solar electricity has now become an extremely attractive investment option for businesses thanks to the new solar electricity rebate and the gross feed-in-tariff introduced in NSW in January this year. The new solar electricity rebate, known as the “Solar Credits Scheme” is now open to everyone including businesses, unlike the old Solar Homes and Communities Plan. Kennards Hire received a $13,000 point of sale discount off each system from SolarSwitch through the Solar Credits Scheme.

On top of this the new solar buy back scheme or gross feed-in-tariff means anyone with a solar electricity system gets credited at least 60c per kilowatt hour for all the electricity their system generates. That’s almost four times the current retail rate. The feed-in-tariff is limited to the first 50 Megawatts installed in NSW of which more than 30MW have already been allocated.

SolarSwitch is one of the largest solar electricity installers in NSW and has worked with home owners, local government and businesses installing over 2500 systems.
