Stockland One Step Closer To Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions By 20 PercentStockland granted $1.16 million to reduce the impact of Australia’s built environment on greenhouse gas emissions.Stockland is one step closer to reaching its target of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions intensity and energy use intensity by 20 percent across its Commercial Property portfolio by FY14, thanks to the Federal Government’s Green Building Fund. The three Stockland buildings, 40 Cameron Ave in Belconnen, ACT, Durack Centre in Perth, WA, and 133 Castlereagh Street in Sydney, NSW, have been granted a total of $1.16 million as part of the Government’s investment to reduce the impact of Australia’s built environment on greenhouse gas emissions. Stockland National Sustainability Manager, Commercial Property, Amanda Steele, said Stockland was thrilled with the announcement as the energy used in its existing portfolio of buildings was a significant contributor to its carbon footprint. “We are committed to improving the energy efficiency in our existing commercial office buildings, as well as our new developments. “Stockland sees the Green Building Fund and government incentives as having a great impact on building efficiency and carbon reductions. “The government funds will assist us to refit these three existing buildings with upgraded air-conditioning and lighting systems to help reduce energy and water consumption. “We use the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) as a tool to benchmark building performance. These upgrades will help strengthen our NABERS ratings by up to 2 stars for each building and lead to significant energy reductions.” Stockland was granted $500,000 for 40 Cameron Ave, $385,000 for Durack Centre, and $275,000 for 133 Castlereagh Street. In 2009, Stockland also received $976,745 from the Green Building Fund to improve energy and water use of 175 Castlereagh Street in Sydney, Garden Square in Brisbane, 452 Flinders Street in Melbourne, and the Edmund Barton building in Canberra. Early indications of these results show improvements in energy efficiency and improvements in NABERS ratings between 1 and 2 stars for each building.
