Clever Water encourages sustainable drinking water at workAccording to Clean Up Australia, Australians use more than 1.3 million tonnes of plastic each year. Plastic water bottles comprise a significant portion of this waste so Clever Water is encouraging people to be more conscious of their water drinking habits and take advantage of tap water – all Clever Water filtration systems are plumbed directly to the water main. Clever Water has supplied a wide range of water coolers to offices and workplaces around Australia. With many government departments including the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) now banning bottled water, Clever Water is hoping other organisations follow suit by adopting environmentally friendly water coolers. Reducing consumption of bottled water is effective in reducing energy use (in production and transport of the bottles) and plastic waste. The Clever Water T6 and T5 water coolers (pictured) also utilise an energy saving sleep mode feature to diminish the environmental impact of each water cooler. For many companies a water cooler that links directly to the water main offers both environmental and cost benefits. Bottled water is estimated to be 2500 times the price of tap water so Clever Water provides a cost-effective solution for clean drinking water. Being hydrated is a key factor for good concentration at work with research revealing that dehydration can have an adverse impact on productivity, safety and morale in the workplace . "We understand how important it is to have an accessible supply of drinking water and we are keen to promote healthy water drinking habits at work," says Kim Scher, founder of Clever Water. Water is an essential part of any diet and consumption can also increase other wellbeing opportunities for staff such as facilitating interaction at work via conversations around the water cooler. Water safety is a key priority for Clever Water. Unlike other water filtration systems, Clever Water’s T5 and T6 office water coolers have an Ultra Violet (UV) light in the cold water tanks. Research has shown that UV light is capable of killing micro-organisms that can cause gastro-intestinal illnesses such as bacteria, viruses, mould, algae, yeast and oocysts like cryptosporidium and Giardia . The key benefit of this form of water filtration is that it does not introduce any chemicals to the water and therefore does not alter the taste, pH or other properties of the water, resulting in clean and unaffected tasting water.
