Increase Your School's Shade

Effective shade for children is a critical issue for schools with outdoor learning and play areas. Shade alone can reduce UV exposure by 75%. Mulders were selected as the school shade supplier for two of Scotch College’s projects. During hot summers, both areas were largely unusable for critical parts of the day.

This Melbourne school needed shade sails for a sizeable pick up/drop off zone and a large sand play areas.

Correctly positioned school shade can block out up to 95% of the suns rays and cut heat levels down dramatically.

  • Several large span sails were designed to provide maximum shade cover over each space.
  • Rainy days were also a problem and part of the solution had to be waterproof too.
  • Sails were designed from colorful red or neutral architectural membranes, complementing nearby building facades.
  • Supporting posts had large diameters for solid construction and durable tensioning.
  • High clearance ensured no obstruction to children or passing vehicles.
Membranes were waterproof and UV resistant, providing superb protection from rain, wind and sun.
  • Supporting posts were made from hot dipped galvanized steel, resistant to rain, salt corrosion and rust.
  • Mulders innovative two pole design had a smaller footprint that a traditional four pole design and could easily fit within constricted spaces.

The end result was a light and airy looking school shade structure. Children could now wait or play outside in comfort, whatever the weather!

For over 60 years Mulders have been providing school shade and child care centres with a wide range of shade sail solutions. Mulders is a prominent member of the industry body for Canvas products and manufactures sails on-site to quality standards in their 1500m2 factory. All their products can be seen on-line at www.mulders.com.au.
